LDO Technology: accuracy with minimal maintenance 

Hach LDO technology (Luminescent Dissolved Oxygen) has proven itself by tens of thousands installed instruments in many industries. The LDO technology:

  • Saves significant time and makes the sensors virtually maintenance free as there are no electrolytes, no electrodes and no membranes to replace
  • Provides highly accurate and stable measurements

Unlike electrochemical sensors, LDO sensors do not consume oxygen and do not require frequent cleaning or frequent calibration, which results in longer sensor life and more stable, accurate readings.

The LDO technology has  been included in the catalogue of ASTM standards.

An active fluorescent spot (1) is excited with blue light (2) and a red luminescent light (3) is detected by the photo diode (5). The presence of oxygen changes the rate of fluorescence decay and phase shift which directly relates to the oxygen partial pressure.
 
The reference LED (4) emits red light pulses of known characteristic onto the fluorescent spot (1), which is detected by the photo diode (5) and used as a reference signal.
