HACH LANGE and TROJAN presented to EU Parliament on March 26

HACH LANGE / TROJAN were asked to serve as expert advisors at a public hearing in the European Parliament to discuss the future allocation of Cohesion Fund investments and its role in upgrading vital infrastructure in the water sector. The meeting was chaired by Romanian Member of the European Parliament Victor Bostinaru.

Sustainability for Sustainable Growth: How Cohesion and R&D Funding Can Drive Europe’s Economic Recovery The current economic crisis means many national governments have backed away from providing funding for capital infrastructure projects. This is a particular problem for the water sector.

European Union decision-makers are becoming increasingly aware that action is urgently required to ensure that Member States overcome the challenges of improving their water quality and ensuring compliance with EU law. The public hearing explored the vital importance of EU Member States continuing to receive appropriate funding through the Cohesion Fund for investment projects.

The event is timely with the year 2012 designated as the European Union’s “Year of Water.” Challenges in relation to the water sector and its role in encouraging sustainable growth, green jobs and economic recovery across the EU have gained increased prominence in the minds of policy-makers.
